Professor Taane Clark

Professor of Genomics and Global Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine

Taane Clark is Professor of Genomics and Global Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, with a background in genetics, statistics, machine learning and epidemiology. He investigates genetic variation in host and pathogen populations in infectious diseases (e.g., malaria, tuberculosis) using whole genome sequencing technologies and population and phylo- genetics, AI, and genome-wide association analysis methods. He develops molecular barcodes for inferring the geographical source, transmission, and AMR of pathogens, which are applied within in silico profiling software tools to assist clinical management and surveillance activities. He has led many UKRI funded projects that are strengthening capacity for genomic investigations in endemic settings, has published >320 papers, and (co-)organised >20 short courses or workshops in ‘omics and bioinformatics.
