The Trustees and staff of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely death of Dr Alan Magill. Alan was a true friend to the Society and to many of its Fellows; we were honoured that he opened our Measuring Progress meeting in Oxford in September 2014 with an extraordinary keynote address on malaria eradication.

The world has lost a gentle, kind and utterly visionary leader. We offer our deepest sympathies to Alan’s wife, daughters and extended family as well as to his colleagues at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and across the globe.
