RSTMH and ITN Productions present “Access to health: global challenges”
The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is partnering with ITN Productions to create “Access to health: global challenges”, a flagship news-style programme exploring the progress made and challenges remaining in the world of tropical medicine and global health.
Presented by UK newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, the programme will highlight the key issues surrounding tropical medicine and global health.
Showcasing the complexities of healthcare around the world
These include advances in diagnostics, treatment, vector control, progress towards eliminating neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), the huge increase of non-communicable diseases, the challenges of the built environment, as well as contexts of climate change, animal health, man-made and natural disasters and growing economic inequality, all of which bring new challenges to the sector.
Our world is changing at an unprecedented rate and tropical medicine has had to deal with international health issues not always related to a tropical climate. The risk of the spread of emerging diseases around the globe is growing and vast population movements – both forced and voluntary – are further adding to the complexities of healthcare.
“Access to health: global challenges” will reveal the threats posed to people’s health and access to healthcare, and will highlight RSTMH’s aim to save lives and improve health around the world through increased access and greater equity in healthcare.
Drawing upon ITN’s 60-year heritage and expertise in storytelling, the news-style piece will combine interviews and reports with sponsored editorial profiles from leading organisations.
European and global collaboration to tackle issues in tropical medicine and global health
“Access to health: global challenges” will premiere at the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health 2019 (ECTMIH 2019) in Liverpool in September next year.
