TB is an infectious disease usually caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Despite being completely curable, TB is the second leading cause of death from an infectious disease after COVID-19. TB mainly affects the lungs, but is known to affect other parts of the body such as the abdomen, glands, bones, and nervous system.

This Thursday 24 March is World TB Day. This international day is an opportunity to spread awareness about TB and its global impact, and to call for an increase in investment in the fight against this infectious killer.

The theme of this year's campaign is "Invest to End TB. Save Lives", highlighting the need to invest in resources to increase equity in access to treatment, and to finally end TB.

To mark this year’s World TB Day, we have put together a collection of papers from Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene and International Health. These articles will be freely available until 24 April 2022.
