Thomas Junghanss is Professor and Head of the Section of Clinical Tropical Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital. He is a physician and tropical and infectious disease specialist. His main research interest is on NTDs. He cooperates with partner institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, SE Asia and Latin America. The principle approach is multidisciplinary with the aim of translating research findings into clinical practice. A special focus is the management of accidents due to venomous and poisonous animals. In a long standing cooperation he has developed together with Mauro Bodio, a biologist at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, the free access platform VAPAGuide to support physicians in charge of patients worldwide.
