Dr Paul Emerson
Dr Paul Emerson is the director of the International Trachoma Initiative and interim director of Children Without Worms at the Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He has worked since 1997 on the eradication, elimination, and control of Neglected Tropical Diseases as an academic and practitioner. He has lived for over ten years in Africa and conducted clinical trials in Ethiopia, The Gambia, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, Sudan, and Tanzania. Dr. Emerson is the chair of the ESPEN Steering Committee (Expanded Special Program for the Elimination of NTDs in Africa) and has authored over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
Dr Emerson trained as a Parasitologist and Medical Entomologist and completed his PhD at the University of Durham in 2002. His current interests are the elimination of trachoma, intestinal worms, malaria, and, leprosy and the eradication of Guinea worm and yaws.
