“As current President of RSTMH I am honoured, on the 30th anniversary of its inception, to launch a revised version of the President’s Fund.

"The President’s Fund was originally established in 1991 to help potential RSTMH members from low- and low-middle income countries pay for their annual membership subscription.

As a charity focused on tackling global health inequities, we are committed to ensuring the Society is as accessible and inclusive as possible. As such, we are aware that even our discounted LMIC subscription is too expensive for some, therefore we want to give deserving individuals the opportunity to become valued members through this scheme.

"We support RSTMH members through our funding opportunities, events, access to research, and our many other activities.

"On behalf of myself and the RSTMH Board of Trustees, I wish every applicant the best of luck.”

Professor Gail Davey

Eligibility and submissions

Residents of low- or middle-income countries (LMICs) who have never been a member of RSTMH are invited to apply for the President’s Fund.

Past RSTMH members who are unable to renew (e.g., due to issues surrounding COVID-19 or financial difficulties) are also encouraged to apply.

Existing RSTMH members at the time of the application period (June-August 2021) cannot apply.

Four candidates will be approved and will have their membership subscription paid for three years.

Awardees will be asked to contribute to the Society at least once a year during the three years of their paid membership. This can be through one or more of the following activities:

  • Writing a blog post or case study on how they have utilised their membership
  • Volunteering at the Society in some capacity
  • Showing proven initiative in helping to recruit new members
  • Attending at least one of our paid-for events

Applications are now closed. The next round will open in June 2022.

Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Awardees will be contacted within six weeks of the application period closing and we hope to officially award the recipients in October.

There will be four awards available for the President's Fund per year; please apply only if you cannot otherwise afford the discounted LMIC membership rate.
