Professor James Logan

Director of ARCTEC and Head of the Department of Disease Control at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

James is a world-leading scientist investigating new approaches for the surveillance and control of diseases. His team was the first to identify body odours associated with malaria infection and published this in the prestigious journal, PNAS. His work includes using sensors, insects and other animals as biosensors for identifying volatile organic compounds that can be used as diagnostic markers for disease, and using these natural systems to develop nature-inspired tools for disease surveillance.
