The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), in collaboration with RSTMH, was delighted to present this webinar hosted by The Guardian’s Health Editor, Sarah Boseley.

LSTM Director, Professor David Lalloo, was joined in conversation by Sir Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust; Professor Tom Kariuki, Director of Programmes at The African Academy of Sciences; and Tamar Ghosh, Chief Executive of RSTMH, to discuss the challenges humanity might face when — not if — the next pandemic arrives.

As recent events have shown, pandemics do not respect geographical boundaries. The discussion highlighted the urgent need for a globally focused effort to address the next major health threats to humanity, particularly in the context of climate change and globalisation.

The panel explored how coordinated action across the global health sector, policymakers, international agencies, and communities will be key to addressing new and emerging challenges in a post-COVID-19 world.

LSTM 125th Anniversary Webinar Series

This webinar marked the first in LSTM’s 125th Anniversary Webinar Series.

The series brought together leading experts in global health for panel discussions and "in conversation" events to celebrate LSTM’s 125th anniversary in 2023. It reflected on major breakthroughs in global health over the last 125 years while examining some of the most urgent health challenges facing the world today.
