International Health: Volume 17, Issue 2, March 2025

International Health is an Open Access journal that aims to stimulate scientific and policy debate and provide a forum for analysis and opinion sharing for individuals and organisations engaged in all areas of global heath.
This month’s Editor’s Choice article is a Short Communication by Manickum et al, who examined COVID-19 vaccine wastage in private and public healthcare facilities in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Their work highlights the importance of addressing emergency distribution and logistics for vaccines needed in epidemic situations at global and national level, in particular the need for fast-tracking regulatory authorization at the same time as conducting appropriate training in handling, administration, and communication around vaccine hesitancy. Given the current situation with Mpox vaccines, this work is especially pertinent and can serve as a reminder of lessons learned.
