Epidemiologist

Elise Farley is an epidemiologist who works with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) studying noma in northwest Nigeria.

The Nigerian Ministry of Health in collaboration with MSF runs programmes at the Noma Children’s Hospital in Sokoto, northwest Nigeria including providing treatment for patients with acute noma, care for noma sequelae, integrated hospital-based services and community-based services.

Operational research is conducted to improve the model of care offered at the hospital. The research agenda encompasses quantitative and qualitative studies examining the biopsychosocial features of noma, its epidemiology and treatment in northwest Nigeria in order to inform advocacy and prevention efforts.
