Dr Kamran Zaman

Dr Kamran Zaman is a Medical Microbiologist. He has been working as a Research Scientist in Indian Council of Medical Research for 6 year and is presenting working at ICMR-National Institute of Traditional Medicine Belagavi (ICMR-NITM Belagavi). 

Of his significant contributions are research studies on scrub typhus infection to understand the clinical features in adults and pediatric cases presenting at a tertiary care center in North India (PGIMER Chandigarh), outcomes of patients presenting with ARDS due to scrub typhus. Also explored the genetic diversity of Orientia tsustsughumshi in North India and use of eschar tissue for diagnosis of ST. In continuation carried out research work in Gorakhpur to understand the risk factors for acquiring scrub typhus (ST) among children in eastern Uttar Pradesh where ST contributes as major agent for AES and study to show the effectiveness of presumptive treatment of AFI with doxycycline/ azithromycin in preventing AES. First documentation of sequelae following AES caused by ST. 

He has contributed to research and diagnostic work of AES/ JE cases and JE vaccine seroprotection in Gorakhpur and has played pilot role in the establishment of COVID-19 diagnostic laboratory at ICMR-RMRC Gorakhpur to cater diagnostic services to eastern Uttar Pradesh and contributed in national Sero-surveys for SARS-CoV-2 antibody seroprevalence in India and heterologous COVID-19 vaccine study in Uttar Pradesh.
