Early Career Grants Programme 2024: Example of a good project budget (GBP £)

We have compiled an example of what a good Early Career Grant budget should look like.

  • The budget is laid out well, flows nicely, and is easy to understand
  • Items are detailed and given a clear rationale
  • Larger items/pieces of equipment (over £500) are justified, including links where possible
  • The budget demonstrates forward thinking/planning with contingency costs. Have you considered unknown costs

Please note that the below is just an example of a good project budget, and that your project might not have the same items. What is important here is the layout and the clear rationale behind each budget item.

Design and print of materials  1 130 130 This is the cost of designing the materials needed for the study questionnaires and for the guides for the community to sensitise them to the work (50) plus the cost of printing 300 copies of this (80)​
Dissemination at local meeting  1 380 380 This is the cost to hire a local hall and provide refreshments and a copy of the report for 50 local community members ​
Contingency​ 1 460 460 This is to cover unknown costs, such as exchange rate differences with the project
