International Health: Volume 15, Issue 5, September 2023
International Health is a fully Open Access journal which launched in 2009. The journal welcomes submissions on all aspects of global health, including the social and economic aspects of both infectious and non-communicable diseases, health systems research, policy and implementation, and the evaluation of disease control programmes and healthcare delivery solutions.
This month’s Editor’s Choice article is a commentary by Lyla Schwartz and colleagues, which provides an overview of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in Afghanistan. Following decades of conflict and instability, their work reveals unprecedented and widespread mental illness in the Afghan population and a mental health service ill equipped to respond. The authors also provide a series of recommendations for NGOs and the wider medical community to utilise to better respond to mental health needs in Afghanistan.
