World Chagas Disease Day: Article Collection

14 Apr 2022

Chagas disease, also known as American trypanosomiasis, is a potentially life-threatening illness caused by the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma cruzi.

This Thursday 14th April is World Chagas Disease Day. This international day is a chance to spread awareness about this 'silent and silenced disease', which kills 10,000 people worldwide per year.

The theme for 2022 is finding and reporting every case to defeat chagas disease. Trypanosoma cruzi infection is curable if treatment is initiated soon after infection, but in many countries, low detection rates and limited access to treatment makes chagas disease a deadly threat.

To mark this year’s World Chagas Disease Day, we have put together a collection of papers from Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene and International Health. These articles will be freely available until 14 May 2022.
