Dr Mark Booth
Mark's interest in parasitology began at Imperial College, as a zoology student. It became such an interesting subject that to him that it shaped his career – firstly through a PHD on the epidemiology of parasitic co-infections. Across working at the SwissTPH, Cambridge University, Durham University and now Newcastle University, Mark has maintained a strong interest in parasite ecology and epidemiology, especially to understand how environmental variation over time and space affects transmission and the pathological effects of infection in humans. Through opportunities to extensively collaborate, Mark has aimed to demonstrate how multi-disciplinary research can reveal more knowledge than individual disciplines. Mark's interest and focus on climate-change and NTDs has developed over the last decade, aiming to understand not just how vulnerable populations may be at risk in the future, but also how to mitigate and adapt to the uncertainties caused by the climate crisis.
