Panisadee Avirutnan

As a virologist with expertise in dengue and flaviviruses, I lead a multidisciplinary research program focused on understanding and combating dengue. My research investigates the intricate mechanisms of the NS1 protein and its impact on immune responses and disease progression. I actively collaborate with colleagues in Thailand and internationally, overseeing clinical cohorts, conducting drug repurposing trials, and establishing a dengue human infection model in Thailand (DHIT), a dengue-endemic setting. This DHIT is the first of its kind in the region and allows us to safely study dengue pathogenesis in a controlled environment, accelerating the evaluation of potential therapeutics and vaccines. Our work aims to translate scientific discoveries into effective dengue solutions, ultimately reducing the global burden of this devastating disease.
