Dr Uduak Okomo

Clinical Assistant Professor, Maternal Adolescent Reproductive and Child Health (MARCH) Centre, LSHTM

Dr. Okomo is an Assistant Professor in the Vaccines and Immunity Theme at the MRC Unit The Gambia, part of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. With over twenty years of experience in paediatrics and child health in West Africa, she is a seasoned paediatrician and epidemiologist.

Dr. Okomo's primary objective is to significantly impact maternal, newborn, and child health in sub-Saharan Africa through research that shapes national and international health policies. Her early work focused on child survival, tackling severe malnutrition, HIV/AIDS, and other infectious diseases in infants and children. Currently, her research aims to improve health outcomes among mothers and newborns by addressing disparities in timely access to quality facility-based care. She is also dedicated to leveraging routine data and evidence-based research to develop policies and programs that enhance maternal and newborn health across sub-Saharan Africa.

Beyond her research, Dr. Okomo plays a pivotal role in public health by serving on several international technical and advisory committees. Her contributions are instrumental in shaping public health policies and practices globally.
