International Health: Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2025
International Health is an Open Access journal that aims to stimulate scientific and policy debate and provide a forum for analysis and opinion sharing for individuals and organisations engaged in all areas of global heath.
This month’s Editor’s Choice article is Ni Ni Tun and colleagues. Their work evaluates the uptake and challenges associated with daily oral pre-exposure prophylaxis among men who have sex with men and transgender women in suburban Yangon, Myanmar. As in other studies across countries, the burden of daily pill intake and a perception of low risk of HIV transmission were key barriers to PrEP uptake. Clearly, comprehensive retention strategies are needed to maximise the effectiveness of PrEP in minimising HIV transmission.
Other articles include a study of Covid-19 vaccine coverage among older hypertension patients in China and an assessment of the progress towards trachoma elimination in Nigeria.
