Kiirya Tevin Walker

Student Ambassador, Mbarara University of Science and Technology

Kiirya Tevin Walter is a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) student at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Uganda, with clinical affiliations at Kawempe National Referral Hospital. He is passionate about global health, medical research, and leadership. As the founder of the Antimicrobial Resistance Giants interest group (AMRg), Kiirya leads a student-driven initiative to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance through community outreaches, social media campaigns, and training community health workers. Notably, Kiirya is a 2023 RSTMH Early Career Researcher Grant recipient. Motivated by Uganda's high burden of sickle cell disease, Kiirya is dedicated to raising awareness about this condition, advocating for community-based screening, and has recently conducted a research study focused on understanding caregivers' perspectives on sickle cell disease.
