LEPRA Society: State Coordinator – Bihar Operations (Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi & Uttar Pradesh state)

Rajni Kant Singh is a physiotherapist by profession with more than 26 years of experience in leprosy, LF and international development. He holds a master’s in international public health (MIPH) from the Liverpool School of Tropical medicine at the United Kingdom. Rajni was himself impaired due to LF and he has faced the medical, physical, mental, and social challenges that this involved.

Rajni represents Lepra (UK) and LEPRA Society in various National and International forums. He is also the State Coordinator of Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh States in India.

He has rich field experience and knowledge, excellent Coordination, Liaison and net- working skills in various government, quasi government & INGOs, stake holders and other agencies. Strong Technical knowledge in thematic issues viz., Leprosy, TB, HIV, Lymphatic Fialariasis, Kalazar etc. Core trainer in LEPRA for podiatry appliances with protective footwear for disabled foot due to Leprosy, Lymphatic Fialariasis and Diabetic ulcer. Programme management expertise in planning, Implementation, monitoring & evaluation. Presented many papers in national and international convention, conferences, workshop and achieved accreditations.

Rajni has developed several innovative approaches for disabled people affected by Leprosy, Elephantiasis, Podoconiosis and Diabetes. Some of his innovations are Combined approaches (LF & Leprosy), Two model of ‘Active case finding’ i) contact, Focal and special search together, ii) Rapid enquiry survey (RES) has given good result and appreciated.

His one of innovation ‘Mobile Foot Care unit’, has got Universal Design Awards 2019 by NCPEDP- Mphasis India. Mobile Foot Care unit aimed to deliver protective footwear close to the patient’s location. He always bellies that footwear is an essential part of treatment and not merely a cosmetic or luxury item.

He was the one of five-team member and have contributed in writing the WHO book on “Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention in Lymphatic Filariasis” (WHO, 2012).
