European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health 2019 opens for abstracts
The event, that takes place every two years, is a chance to network with over 1,500 scientists and experts from across the world.
RSTMH is proud to be hosting ECTMIH 2019 in Liverpool, UK in September 2019 on behalf of the Federation of European Societies for Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH).
2019 has specific significance for the tropical medicine community, as it will mark the 25th anniversary of FESTMIH, of which RSTMH is a member.
25 years: investigation, innovation and implementation
This is mirrored in the meeting theme of 25 years: investigation, innovation and implementation, which will provide a platform for showcasing and discussing research and progress in tropical medicine and global health in the twenty-first century.
It will include NTDs, malaria, HIV, TB and non-communicable diseases. We’ll look at prevention and treatment, in the context of underlying health systems and impactful external factors.
An opportunity to develop knowledge and networks
It will be an excellent occasion for early career researchers, community and allied health workers and implementers to develop their knowledge and networks. It will also be an opportunity to showcase public-private partnerships.
The theme presents a great opportunity to reflect on how much progress has been made in the last quarter of a century in terms of investigation, innovation and implementation, and is a chance to consider what we can expect from the next 25 years for tropical medicine and global health.
Tackling the challenges to human health
The challenges of these enormous fields of work continue to test us and an ever-wider network of scientists and professionals is needed to tackle the risks to human health, as well as the interactions between human and animal health, the environment, population movement, and economic, social and political change.
Never have we been so in need of the global community across all sectors and disciplines to work together. In 2019, it is more necessary than ever for the UK to demonstrate the importance, continued relevance and need for collaboration across this European Federation, and beyond, to achieve impact in the field of tropical medicine and global health.
