2025 Early Career Grants Programme - Reference request guidance

As part of your application, RSTMH needs to review information provided by two referees, regarding your suitability for this grant.

Before they submit the reference, they should have read your application and reviewed your budget.

Attached at the bottom of the page is an information sheet for your referees to review before they write their reference. Please pass this on to them, and they should each return to you a PDF. You should then upload these two attachments to your application.

You can save your application and come back to it when your references are ready. To save your application, click on any of the section titles on the application form (review the Benefactor Guidance page for further information on this).

Referee 1: Your supervisor.

Your supervisor is the individual who is overseeing your project and supporting you throughout.

Please make sure the person you select to supervise your project is available to do so until your project is complete, and all reporting is submitted and signed off by RSTMH. At the earliest, this will be April 2027.

As per our Terms and Conditions, your supervisor cannot change at any point during your project. Once you have submitted your application, if a circumstance arises that means the person you have chosen can no longer be your supervisor, then we will not be able to proceed with reviewing your application for funding, and you will be declined. You will be able to re-apply, with a new supervisor, in future years.

Referee 2: A senior member of your employing or affiliated organisation.

This person will not necessarily be involved in your project, but they should know you well enough to be able to comment on your suitability for the grant, as well as having read your application. If you are awarded and RSTMH are unable to get in contact with your or your supervisor during the duration of your project, then we would reach out to this person in an attempt to get in touch with you.
