Donald Mackay Medal talk: Professor Rashida Ferrand
For this webinar on World AIDs Day, we bring you the 2022 Donald Mackay Medal recipient, Professor Rashida Ferrand giving her medal talk on the topic 'HIV in children: Is achieving UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets enough?'. Professor Ferrand will be introduced by her nominator for the medal, Professor Liz Corbett.
Rashida Ferrand is a Professor of International Health at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Since 2003, she has been based in Zimbabwe where she directs an interdisciplinary research programme (The Health Research Unit Zimbabwe) that works on public health issues of pertinence to the region including HIV and sexual and reproductive health, infections and antimicrobial resistance and multimorbidity and diseases of ageing. She directs the Wellcome-Funded Africa Health Research Training Programme which aims to provide doctoral training to 25 UK and 25 paired African health professionals in global health.
The Donald Mackay Medal, jointly awarded by the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in conjunction with the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, is for outstanding work in tropical health, especially relating to improvements in the health of rural or urban workers in the tropics. It is for those at the mid stage in their career.
I am honoured to receive the Donald Mackay Medal. It is very much a recognition of the team that I have the privilege to work with and their consistent can-do spirit in the face of any challenging circumstances that arise, and of our national and international collaborators."
