Mwele Ntuli Malecela
Dr Mwele Ntuli Malecela was Director General of the National Institute for Medical Research, United Republic of Tanzania and the director of the Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases at the World Health Organization.
She was also Director of the Tanzania Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Programmme. She worked for 23 years at the National Institute for Medical Research in the field of lymphatic filariasis immuno-epidemiology and ran successful programmes for lymphatic filariasis patients.
Dr Mwele passed away on Thursday 10 February 2022. She was an inspirational leader in so many ways who made an enormous contribution to global health and NTDs. We at RSTMH feel privileged to have worked with her on a number of projects. She will be sadly and greatly missed.
